Originally this motive was executed as a lithographic poster for Chagall's exhibition at Galerie Maeght in 1972. Maeght also published an edition in oversize for exterior adverticing as described in Sorliers Catalogue of the posters on p58. Sorlier gives an edition of 100 posters in oversize with text, but there were also 75 copies without text printed on Arches 160 x 120 cm. The oversized edition bears the text in small letters "Ch. Sorlier Grav". This copy is one of the 75 copies on Arches numbered in pencil. It has never been framed or exposed to light - so colours are perfectly fresh. There are some light handling creases -mainly along paperedges but it is in generally very fine condition . The greyish tone in the lower left part of the photo is a shadow of the photographer , not a part of the lithograph
