Pablo Picasso — Danseuse, 1954

Original lithograph (transfer lithograph)
Catalogue references: Cramer 68 · Reuße 656 · Mourlot 259 · Bloch 767

This striking lithograph, titled Danseuse, was created by Pablo Picasso in March 1954 as part of the illustrations for Le Ballet by Boris Kochno, published in the same year by Hachette (Arts du Monde). The image was executed as a transfer lithograph, printed by Mourlot, Paris, and reproduced in approximately 29.4 × 18.5 cm.
The work is noted for its vivid palette and fluid line, typical of Picasso’s graphic language of the early 1950s. It forms part of a series of illustrations Picasso produced for Kochno’s book, printed in a run of 1000 copies, where the Danseuse lithograph appears as the frontispiece.
This composition also relates closely to a separate, larger lithograph of the same subject made by Picasso in March 1954, catalogued as Reuße 656 / Mourlot 259, executed in four colors (yellow, blue, violet and green) on stone and later printed in an edition of 5 E.A. and 50 numbered proofs.
Printer: Mourlot, Paris

Image size: approx. 29.4 × 18.5 cm
Print run: 1000 copies

This lithograph represents one of Picasso’s most elegant ballet-related images, demonstrating the artist’s continued engagement with theatre, movement, and choreographic line.
