Heaven and Hell on the High Road (field edition), c. 1918. Behr's Verlag (Friedrich Feddersen), Berlin and Leipzig (no date). 2nd edition. Fourth thousand. 8vo (21 x 14.5 cm), 200 pp. Original cardboard with title illustration (reduced reproduction of the first woodcut, ‘Tippelbruder’) and vignette on the back cover. With 42 original woodcuts by the author. With private dedication in ink on the flyleaf, dated 1918.
The first edition in twice the size was published in 1915 (see my other listing on Amorosart). There, the larger woodcuts were each placed on one page, while in the present ‘field edition’ the original woodcuts were distributed across two facing pages. This small-format edition, of which there is also a signed special edition, was apparently so successful that it was reprinted several times after the war.
