Clément MOREAU - Contra el nazismo y el fascismo

Clément Moreau (= Carl Meffert): Contra el nazismo y el fascismo. 30 dibujos de clément moreau del año 1938 (Against Nazism and Fascism. 30 drawings by Clément Moreau from 1938). With a foreword (in Spanish) by Dr A. Siemsen, Member of the Reichstag. Of the 30 "drawings", 26 are reproduced in relief etching and 4 motifs are woodcuts. Each drawing signed by Moreau, together with Moreau's handwritten note on the title page "Buenos Aires Febrero 1939 Clement Moreau".

Carl Meffert (1903-1988), who was persecuted by the Nazis for his socially critical graphic novels, just about escaped arrest in Berlin in 1933 and fled to Switzerland. In order to avoid further arrest due to a lack of residence and work permits, he adopted the pseudonym Clément Moreau, which he would henceforth use as his artist name. In 1935, Moreau moved to Argentina where he created hundreds of political drawings - such as the one shown here - mainly for daily newspapers. Political circumstances in Argentina forced Moreau to return to Switzerland in 1961, where he worked from then on as a theatre illustrator and drawing teacher and died in 1988.
