This exquisite ceramic impression captures the face of a man. With textured curls cascading down the side of his face and a thin defined nose with wide gazing eyes, he appears to be taking in his surroundings. In brilliant colors of green, blue, and white that play off the natural red tone of the clay, textures and light come into play that allow for the face to come to life.
Created in 1968-1969, this square plaque of red earthenware clay, engobe ground, engraving enchanced with oxides under partial brushed glaze, black patina (white, blue, green) is from the edition of 100. This work features the inscribed stamps: 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' on verso.
