PASCIN'S ONLY KNOWN PORTRAIT OF LOUIS MARCOUSSIS (1883-1941), AND THUS A UNIQUE LINK BETWEEN TWO OF THE LEADING JEWISH ARTISTS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.
An extraordinary charcoal drawing on fine bluish-green wove paper.
Signed by the artist in pencil.
Pascin kept this drawing until his death: it features both the small estate stamp (recto) and the larger one (verso).
In excellent condition.
The authenticity of this drawing has been confirmed by Madame ROSEMARIE NAPOLITANO, the leading expert on Pascin's work and author of the most recent catalogue raisonné. Jewish artist Georges Kars (1882-1945) greatly admired this portrait, and copied it (with a very different style.)
